The Phoenix Shakes the Heavens

Staring at the three enormous characters overhead that seemed destined to crush her for the rest of her life: Cold Palace of Extinction.

Listening to the heavy clang of the palace gate slamming shut behind her,

Lan Yun felt bewildered. The sensation of dying was still so vivid, so how had she opened her eyes to find herself the only daughter of Empress Shengyuan, Princess Wuyou of the Dayuan Kingdom?

Three days ago, Empress Liu Yinghua's entire maternal clan had been executed. That same day, Liu Yinghua was forced to drink poison, dying while five months pregnant.

The future awaiting Lan Yun was not the privileged status of a princess born of the empress, but that of a prisoner, confined for life with no hope of pardon.

She raised her head to gaze at the small patch of sky overhead.

Lan Yun slowly closed her eyes. Imprisoned for life, never to be pardoned... But she was only seven years old.

Within the ninefold palace, every scheme is laid for one purpose: to claim a free sky overhead.

She had no such intentions, yet stirred the spring breeze. One phoenix cry, and the world was shaken!

(Note: Feng is an abbreviated form of fenghuang. Feng refers to the male, huang to the female, but the terms are often used interchangeably to refer to both as feng. The title uses feng in this general sense, as clarified here.)
