The scholar-officials represent the interests of landlords and gentry. Whose interests matter more, the people's or those of the gentry and officials?
So the claim that eunuchs seizing power brings ruin to the country and misery to the people is pure nonsense. The civil officials and scholars who insist that only the teachings of Confucius and Mencius are right are the real culprits behind the people's suffering!
