The Scripture of Crossing Souls

The immortals and Buddhas feast on offerings from the living, but I alone fulfill the wishes of the dead.

I walk the world, but I do not ease suffering, avert calamity, or save people from disasters caused by human folly or the heavens.

I only ease hearts still unwilling to let go, soothe lingering grievances, and fulfill wishes left unfinished. I ferry all living beings across, and set the cycle of reincarnation in motion once more.

A grave-watching boy by the Wei River in Daxia happened upon a strange scripture. By fulfilling the wishes of the dead, he could obtain rare treasures of heaven and earth, along with wondrous powers and arts.

With this, the boy journeyed onward, guiding countless souls to peace. Little did he know that one day, when he looked back, the ground would be strewn with the corpses of gods and Buddhas, and the cosmic road of reincarnation would lie before him.
