The Airheaded Concubine's Rise in the Palace

The first time, the little palace maid Lianhua took tea leaves to curry favor with Consort Zhaoyi. The emperor stopped her along the way and, before she could react, hijacked her tea leaves, leaving her bewildered.

The second time, she wanted to curry favor with Noble Consort. At the Noble Consort's birthday banquet, before she could present the tea leaves she had carefully prepared, the emperor confiscated them, leaving her aggrieved.

The third time, she had just snuck out with a palace maid after picking bamboo shoots, planning to go back and make a delicious meal. The emperor suddenly appeared along the way and wanted to invite himself to dinner. He threatened to punish her if the food wasn't good. She went all out and barely passed muster. Before she could even feel happy, the emperor told her he was staying the night too!

That was when he completely latched onto her, eating her food, drinking her tea, and sleeping in her bed, all for free, while being so stingy he refused to reward her with anything.

That night, the more she thought about it, the more upset she became. The silver she had saved in earlier years had all gone toward supporting the emperor. Now it was gone, and if she couldn't afford to support him in the future, she might be punished. The more she thought about it, the sadder she felt, until tears pattered down her cheeks and woke the emperor sleeping beside her.

The emperor frantically tried to comfort her. "Good girl, don't cry, don't cry. I can't wait to reward you. How could I punish you?"

After soothing her for a long while, he finally got her to smile through her tears by promising to provide her with food and drink.

The emperor breathed a sigh of relief. He would have to dote on this little consort from now on and never upset her enough to make her cry again.
