The Yin Messenger’s Proxy

Synopsis Zhang Boxin bows three times before his grandfather’s grave, unaware that each bow costs his grandfather 73 million merit coins in the underworld. His grandfather, Zhang Yichang, was playing pai gow in the underworld when Qin Shi'an, an official of the Underworld Bureau, rigged the game. He lost the family fortune and even put the chains of the Naihe Bridge up as collateral. The debt is due in three days. If it goes unpaid, four generations of the Zhang family will be erased from the Book of Life and Death. Beneath the foundation of the old family home, Zhang Boxin unearths the ancestral Nine Nether Treasure Token. His bloodline claims it, making him the underworld’s agent in the land of the living overnight. Thirty thousand wandering souls answer his command. He alters exchange rates in the ghost market and sends modern weapons across realms, waging an asymmetric war in the underworld with a modern mind. But the token is only the beginning: a century ago, his father, Zhang Jiangkun, leapt from the Naihe Bridge and was sealed behind a hidden passageway door; his great-grandfather, Zhang Jixiang, has been pinned inside that door as a soul for 120 years; and his mother, Zhang Jing, remains among the living, guarding the key that opens the underworld’s hidden door. By day, he works as a lawyer in the land of the living to raise funds for his troops. By night, he follows the Yin Soldier Road into the ghost market to uncover the truth. Each time he uses the token’s powers, his lifespan shrinks. But within five months, he must repay the debt, rescue his father, trace the Ghost King’s financial network, and figure out one thing: when, with whom, and which path is the fourth token secretly forged by his great-grandfather, “No Way Home,” meant to open? He opens the gates between the living and the dead, one by one.
