The Selector

In 2038, Pengcheng is folded into three layers: the pristine, icy Upper City; the noisy, crowded Lower City; and the underground, where sunlight never reaches. The H virus released by the "Tashan Incident" ten years ago did not kill people, but rewrote humanity. Some awakened supernatural abilities and advanced through nine tiers, some used technology to strengthen their bodies until they became machines, and countless others became targets to be "screened."

Legend says the H virus is a "civilization screening device" deployed by an advanced civilization, leaving behind only the seeds worthy of a new world.

Wang Yitian, a young man from the Lower City, has been born with a scar beneath his left collarbone. It is a key capable of shutting down the screening device from the inside. A viral doomsday prophecy video, the mad words "There's something on you that's making a sound," and his father's unmailed medical examination receipt drag him into the opening chapter of a collapse. As the city becomes a hunting ground within twelve hours, and the "Evolution Council" and "Survival Council" draw swords over the future of civilization, he must find out: Is he a defective result of the screening, or the one who will bring it to an end?
