In 2030, a spiritual qi revival sweeps across Earth, and hidden sects emerge one after another. Their aims are twofold: first, to open their doors and recruit new disciples; second, to investigate the secular world and seize its resources. Modern society, which had been developing peacefully, is thrown into chaos. Conventional weapons lose much of their power against cultivators empowered by the revival of spiritual energy, and secular governments suffer a series of defeats. They have no choice but to reach a compromise with the newly emerged sects, ceding vast stretches of spirit-rich mountains and mineral veins for the sects to divide and control. The rules of the world are being rewritten. The class divide between ordinary people and cultivators is rapidly taking shape, and a new order centered on spiritual resources is slowly spreading across the globe.
