Undertaker’s Taboos: The Corpse Whisperer

Undertakers have three rules: don’t work on someone who’s only pretending to be dead, don’t work on anyone whose eyes are open, and don’t work on anyone who’s crying. To scrape together my mother’s surgery fees, I broke the rules and worked on a “female car-crash victim.” The moment my needle and thread went through her, her icy fingers clamped around my wrist. From her lifeless throat came the words, “You brought me back to life. So who’s going to pay for mine?” From then on, a living corpse began to wander through the funeral home at midnight.
