Just like its title, the book is full of passion and reflects the author's ups and downs in life, but also the highlights of his passionate and unremitting pursuit. The book describes the author's struggle against suffering, his quest to get rid of poverty, his passion for military life, his self-imposed pressure, strict self-discipline, pursuit of progress, and his hard work. He is meticulous, pragmatic and effective in police work, loves what he does, and moves forward bravely, explaining his ordinary and colorful life course. This is an autobiographical memoir that uses a cross-section of personal life experiences to present a picture of my country's poverty and weakness in rural areas and the hardships of ordinary people's lives in the long period after liberation in the middle of the last century. It presents the turbulent process of reform and opening up on social life, especially a wonderful and touching picture of military camp life full of youthful vitality and united struggle. As a rural child who dropped out of primary school, he was able to record what he saw, heard and felt as his life unfolded in simple language and delicate writing. Especially as an eyewitness, he told the story of the war-torn, smoke-filled, and thrilling life of fighting to aid Vietnam and resist the United States. It seemed real and tangible, making the black and white words no longer cold and pale, and making the grassroots culture more colorful and precious. An ordinary hero, a civilian writer, he has passed away, but the latter is still in his arms, his life is still burning, and the sky is still blue!
History should not be forgotten, these stories remind us to cherish our present life
Pay tribute to the tough women like grandmothers and mothers who hold up the hope of a family
After reading this, I felt so confused. It was really difficult for people in that era.
This family oral history is set in the mountainous areas of eastern Fujian in the 1940s, showing the survival epic of the lower class people:
1. Extreme survival dilemma
• His father Feng Mengjian was seriously injured and disabled due to a forest dispute, and his mother Chen Mingchu was forced to "rent a marriage" in exchange for food (a special contract for the remains to be returned to the Feng family)
• Survival crisis for young children: A 4-year-old boy refused to eat sweet potato rice before being weaned, and was in danger of being sold to Singapore. He was eventually adopted to his aunt's family with 7 dans of sweet potato rice.
•Three separations of flesh and blood: the elder sister was sold as a child bride, the third brother was given away to be raised in exchange for grain, and the narrator was passed on to another family many times
2. Traditional social structure
• Child bride system: The mother was sent to the Lei family when she was young, and the daughter she gave birth to was sold to the Donghua family, forming an intergenerational cycle
• Clan contract culture: dowry agreements, adoption documents, etc. Constrain the marriage and blood relationships of the lower class people
After Yu Yangzhuo (June 1945 - May 2016) retired, with the encouragement of his daughter Yu Rongmei, he began to recall his ordinary and colorful life history, and learned computer typing. He spent 10 years and revised the draft ten times to write this book. Yu Yangzhuo, born in June 1945, is a native of Shanyang Village, Shanyang Town, Gutian County, Fujian Province. Due to family poverty, he was adopted as a grandson by his biological mother when he was 4 years old. When he was at school age, he attended a village night school literacy class, and then entered Shanyang Elementary School. After finishing the fourth grade of elementary school, he dropped out of school due to poverty. In order to find a way out of life, he worked as a firewood driver and porter in the mountains of northern Fujian. He also learned and mastered the craft of building walls and houses while working. After returning to his hometown, he joined the army in December 1965 and became a glorious anti-aircraft artillery soldier of the People's Liberation Army. He later went to Vietnam with the army to participate in the war to aid Vietnam in resisting the United States. In the army, he respected the leadership, united his comrades, endured hardships and stood hard work, and performed outstandingly. He was awarded the title of "Five Good Soldiers" for three consecutive years and was honorably admitted to the regiment and the party. After retiring from the army, he worked as a train policeman and a policeman in the Fujian Railway System. His style was pragmatic and hard-working, and he was resourceful and courageous in handling police duties. He achieved many successes, and his deeds were reported by the Fujian Daily.
