As competition among news media grows fiercer, more and more outlets are using undercover investigations and hidden cameras to expose problems and shine a light on dark corners. These reports often attract public attention because they reflect everyday life. The reporters' disguises and undercover work also fascinate audiences with their humor, strangeness, and danger. This series taps into that interest, artistically portraying stories of journalists using hidden cameras and undercover investigations to expose social ills and uphold justice.
The show follows Yu Xiang, a young man from out of town who heads to a big city with dreams of becoming a screenwriter. After a string of setbacks, he unexpectedly becomes a reporter for the news documentary program The Third Eye. From then on, he works as an investigative journalist exposing social ills. Through his camera lens, audiences see a host of notorious forms of wrongdoing, some of which persist to this day: false advertising, pyramid schemes, paid female escorts, marriage scams, the sale and purchase of counterfeit medicine, piracy, reselling used clothing, exam cheating, telecommunications fraud, unscrupulous tour guides, and scams involving health supplements. His work broadens viewers' horizons and raises their awareness, while also helping the authorities crack down on these crimes and promote social justice. Along the way, he faces death threats several times, receives help from many people devoted to justice, and finds love when he least expects it.
