In 1958, in order to meet the coal supply of Jiuquan Iron and Steel Company, the state began to invest in the construction of Shicheng, a mining area. Shi Xiuying, the eldest sister of the Shi family, was forced to lose her job as a worker and unexpectedly became an intern in a photo studio. Her father was a first-generation coal worker, and her younger brother Shi Jianying and her lover Deng Fengshou became the second generation of coal workers. Shi Xiuying used her camera to record the changes in the small town from desolation to economic prosperity and population growth. The Shi family also got on the economic express due to the booming development of the industry. Daughter Deng Chunfeng and childhood sweetheart Wang Yingbo, influenced by their parents, have deep feelings for the small town and are determined to return home after completing their studies and build their hometown. However, Shicheng is facing a transformation, and the fate of everyone in the Shi family has also undergone earth-shaking changes. Two people with completely different personalities, from not understanding each other to knowing each other and falling in love, follow the changes of the times, overcome many difficulties, break the inherent concepts, realize the passion of youth, and successfully transform. Three generations of coal workers have persevered for half a century, from building the first coal factory to the coal boom everywhere, to supporting national environmental protection and facing resource depletion. Different young people have different ideas and have always worked hard on their own fronts to write the masterpiece of the times.
