The Royal Arts High School selects music students to perform in the United States. Pop and Western music are chosen, while traditional Chinese music is ignored. Lin Yue, a girl in the traditional music department, wants to win her music a chance to perform and prove that it can be combined with other forms of music and shine just as brightly on the international stage. She and the spirit of her guqin encourage each other as she hones her playing and fights the unfair treatment from the school and students in other music departments. To earn a place in the performance, shy and honest Lin Yue takes on students from the other departments in a battle to prove traditional music's worth. Despite the taunts and discrimination from pop music students, she keeps pushing herself and combines her skills with those of the guqin spirit. In the end, she wins a chance to perform, as well as the respect and recognition of her classmates and the foreign school for traditional Chinese music.
