Aid to Xinjiang, 1981

In 1981, sandstorms ravaged Xinjiang. Lin Guokai and his childhood friend Zhang Weimin resolutely set aside their longing for home and headed to Xinjiang to help combat desertification. They combined plants with sand-control canals to establish biological barriers, improved reservoir transport channels to boost water delivery, and bred superior windbreak tree varieties. While fighting desertification, they also helped the people of Xinjiang grow prosperous! Before long, the sandstorms were gone, and Lin Guokai had become a great benefactor of Hetian County!
