The Abandoned Convent Girl Returns to the Capital, and Everyone Pays the Price

Song Zhaoning was abandoned in a poor convent for nine whole years.

She braves a rainstorm to return to the family home, only to ride in a carriage that has been tampered with.

By sheer luck, she arrives unharmed at the door of the home she left nine years ago.

Inside the vermilion gates, her mother is preparing sliced fish for her younger brother and tosses her a few coins as if she were a beggar.

Her younger brother shouts that she is a “jinx” who deserves to die.

Her father treats her as a stepping stone to a smooth official career...

Everyone thinks she has returned to demand justice and win back her parents' affection.

But what Song Zhaoning wants is power, and the right to take control of her own life.

She doesn't want her parents' love or her relatives' protection. She wants to rise to the top as a woman, make her way to the highest halls, and earn a title of nobility!
