Your Highness, the Prince Has Fallen for You

Prince Qu was gravely wounded while saving the emperor and fell into a coma. After worrying for a long time, the emperor decided to arrange a celebratory marriage for him, issuing an imperial decree that the dignified and poised legitimate daughter of the Bai family, the chancellor’s household, would become Prince Qu’s consort and marry him in a month.

The decree caused an uproar throughout the court. Never mind whether Prince Qu would ever wake up, the chancellor’s legitimate daughters were hardly alike. The eldest, Bai Qingxi, was beautiful but arrogant and domineering. The second daughter, Bai Qingru, was gentle and virtuous, but so inconspicuous that people often overlooked her.

Everyone assumed the emperor meant the eldest daughter, Bai Qingxi, and that he was sending the domineering woman to become a widow in all but name. But the news that eventually came out was that the second daughter, Bai Qingru, would marry into Prince Qu’s household. Everyone wondered if the chancellor had lost his mind. How could a younger sister marry before her elder sister?

While everyone was pitying Bai Qingru, someone supposedly “unconscious” sat in the imperial study looking thoroughly displeased. When he realized there was no changing the arrangement, he gave up. It was only one more person in the household, after all. The Prince Qu household could certainly afford to support her.

But thinking of how Bai Qingru had been offered up as a sacrifice by her own father, Xu Qu felt a little more sympathy for her. Later, however, he realized his consort was not nearly as gentle and helpless as she appeared. Meanwhile, Bai Qingru could only watch helplessly as someone shamelessly lounged in her courtyard, refusing to leave.

Xu Qu: If no one else will cherish you, then I will.

Bai Qingru: I must have used up all the good luck in my life when I met you.
