Great Ming: From Tutor to Official

In the autumn of the fortieth year of the Jiajing reign, Chun'an County in Hangzhou Prefecture welcomed an unusual adviser. Yan Lou, a modern criminal investigator, accidentally transmigrated through time and became an aide to the county magistrate, Zhou Mobai. At a time when Japanese pirates ravaged the coast and the bureaucracy was corrupt, Yan Lou used modern forensic techniques to solve the “White Lotus cultist case” and economic measures to resolve a crisis caused by a deficit in the county treasury. He displayed extraordinary talent while cracking down on salt smuggling along the canals and outwitting the prefect of Hangzhou. Leveraging his achievements, he joined the Zhejiang Provincial Surveillance Commission. When the famed anti-pirate general Qi Jiguang was reassigned to Zhejiang, Yan Lou brought modern military ideas to the war against the pirates, gradually growing from a local aide into a statesman who could influence the imperial court.
