Our Days as Boys

(Sweet youth romance, mutual pining) During their junior year, at the Class 3, Grade 2 milk tea shop, Xiao Xiao is looking at the news on her phone. “Zaozao, the news says the civil affairs bureau might get rid of the 9.9-yuan marriage certificate fee.” Chi Zaozao stops counting money and looks at Xiao Xiao as if she were an idiot. “Do you think I’m short 9.9 yuan? I’m short a person to go get the certificate with!” Cen Yan, sitting at the next table, sets down his book and reveals a face of refined, otherworldly beauty. “Chi Zaozao, if you’d like, I can treat you.” On the day they go to get their marriage certificate, Cen Yan pays the fee. “Congratulations to the happy couple. That’ll be 9.9 yuan.” “Would 9 yuan be okay?” Chi Zaozao asks without thinking, out of habit. The clerk smiles awkwardly. “Sorry, the processing fee isn’t eligible for a discount.” “Chi! Zao! Zao!” Cen Yan’s expression darkens. Chi Zaozao bows and scrapes. “Sorry, I’m just used to haggling...” During their wedding vows, Cen Yan says, “I’ve successfully handled crises at so many companies, but I couldn’t escape the biggest crisis of my life: Chi Zaozao. Ever since I met her, my life has become a complete mess.” The bride, Chi Zaozao: “???” Cen Yan continues, “But in the middle of that mess, I found my way home.” Life has no fixed destination. Wherever I meet you is home.
