The Land of Eternal Life

Two hundred years ago, a strange virus appeared on Earth. Those infected developed petal-shaped black marks on their right hands, with a shape very much like a blooming rose. The virus was named the Black Rose Virus. Most infected people did not live past forty. Those with weaker constitutions might not even reach thirty. In other words, they faced death in the prime of their lives. At last, seventy years ago, humanity succeeded in developing a “method of immortality.” After a person died, their consciousness was preserved using special techniques. It was then edited and organized before being implanted into a machine. The machine would carry on the person’s consciousness and memories, allowing it to live just like a human. In this way, people could achieve immortality.
