Interwoven Memories

In the late 1980s, a massive explosion at the Chunjiang Chemical Plant claimed many lives in a sea of flames and left a group of children orphaned. Having lost their parents, these children faced the darkest time of their lives. Confused and rebellious, they could see no direction ahead. Then a girl named Xu Xiaoning entered their lives, comforting their lonely souls and lighting their way forward. But one hot afternoon, someone put Xu Xiaoning on a red motorcycle, and she vanished without a trace. Not long afterward, their orphanage burned to the ground, and two orphans disappeared in the fire.

In 1995, Cai Guohua, the chemical plant director who had sponsored them, was murdered, his heart torn out. The suspect was Chen Fujun, a laid-off worker. Years later, the police discovered that they had made a mistake in the Cai Guohua case: the real killer was someone else. Xia Chuan, one of the orphans, became a police officer in his search for the missing Xu Xiaoning. He returned to his hometown and reopened the Cai Guohua case. Then another series of bloody murders began, with every victim's heart torn out. The case was bizarre and terrifying. One day, an autobiography appeared on an online forum, and the police finally found a clue. As their investigation deepened, they discovered that every murder pointed to Xu Xiaoning, who had disappeared all those years ago.

Where did Xu Xiaoning go, and what happened to her?
