A Rushing Oasis

In the 1980s, Aksu City, located on the edge of the Taklimakan Desert in southern Xinjiang, was plagued by sandstorms. The Gobi Desert Kokoya, only five kilometers away from the city, was the source of sandstorms. In order to protect their homes and benefit future generations, the people of all ethnic groups in Aksu launched the Kokoya Desert Greening Project under the difficult circumstances of having no special funds, no large equipment, and no model to learn from. Forestry expert Lin Shenghua responded to the call and led his family members Lin Jianxin, Huang Yulan, Li Jiabao, Lin Qingya and others to devote themselves to the Kekeya Desert Greening Project. Three generations of ancestors and grandchildren have inherited the dream of "greening the desert and guarding the homeland". They are not only witnesses of the times, but also participants. The Kekeya Desert Greening Project has lasted more than 30 years, and millions of people have carried out a green relay, forging the "Kekeya Spirit" that is famous both at home and abroad. Today, this artificial forest belt of more than one million acres is like a rushing green tide, blocking the yellow sand and nourishing the oasis of Aksu. From the Gobi desert to the forest orchards, from survival to ecology, this is the answer to the "Two Mountains" theory handed over by Aksu.
