The Little Darling Can Speak to Beasts, and I'll Save This Fallen Marquis's Household

Pei Yuan is the impoverished illegitimate daughter of the Jing'an Marquis's household, born and raised on a country estate. The servants there bullied her for her lowly birth and mocked her for acting strange and being dim-witted. In truth, she was born able to speak with animals, and knew every secret on the estate.

Trouble suddenly erupted at the marquis's estate. The legitimate eldest son, Pei Yan, was badly wounded and sent to the estate to hide and recover. But as soon as he arrived, his four-year-old half-sister exposed a plot to poison and assassinate him.

Pei Yuan: [The little mouse says someone wants to poison you.]

Pei Yan: Which uncle?

Pei Yuan: [There's something bad by your side.]

Pei Yan turned to his guard and asked, "Are you the bad thing?"

At first he was deeply skeptical, but after investigating, he was stunned to discover that every word the little girl had said was true.

Her eldest brother's legs were crippled, and he had given up on medicine. Pei Yuan thought the marquis's household was so poor they couldn't afford to eat, so she enlisted the help of the birds and beasts in the mountains to find medicinal herbs and treat him. She also eavesdropped on secret conversations through a mouse who couldn't keep its mouth shut, helping her brother unearth the mastermind behind the plots to destroy their household, one layer at a time.

On her first day back in the capital, she treated the Minister of Revenue's wife's cat, and the woman adopted her as a goddaughter. On the second day, she helped the Grand Chancellor's hunting dog find its former owner, and he promised to protect her. On the third day, even a palace consort came looking for her, cradling a Persian cat.

The capital's powerful figures lined up to dote on her. Pei Yuan hugged the fluffy animals in her arms and said in her childish voice, "Don't rush. Let me deal with the people who harmed the marquis's household first."
