Northeastern China Ghost Stories: The Buried Blade

The Buddhist scriptures say that laying down the butcher's knife will make you a Buddha on the spot, but I reckon becoming a Buddha isn't that easy. For seven generations, my Zhou family has made its living as butchers. If laying down our knives were enough to become Buddhas, I figure I'd only need to worship the immortals. I've studied and was supposed to go to university, but I had no choice but to follow the butcher's path. With the two knives my father passed down to me on my back, I charge into the underworld time and again. If I meet a god, I kill a god; if I meet a Buddha, I kill a Buddha.
