The Tang Guest

A guest: one who arrives; one who brings prosperity. In 907 AD, the Tang dynasty fell, the realm fractured, warlords carved up the land, and smoke from the fighting rose everywhere. The splendid age under the Heavenly Khan was destroyed overnight. All that remained was devastation: people driven from their homes and a collapsing state. No one could have imagined that an ordinary frontier soldier in the remote northwest would awaken in a new life and become the last spark of defiance in a chaotic age. He would not accept the chaos as fate, go along with the rotten court, or bow to the arrogant warlords. Rising from a humble frontier garrison, he organized the army, strengthened the defenses, suppressed threats along the borders, resettled refugees, and laid a solid foundation. When the court grew rotten, he swept away the old and built anew. When warlords divided the realm, he defeated them one by one. When foreign tribes watched for an opportunity, he crushed them with iron and blood. In his hands, the crumbling realm regained its backbone. Under his command, the sinking Tang dynasty once more shone with heavenly light. In this life, he entered the Tang as an outsider, saving the state from collapse and keeping China from falling. From a mere frontier soldier, he dragged the shattered realm back to a glorious age, when nations came to pay tribute and envoys arrived from every direction. A guest by birth, his heart belonged to the Tang. Thus, the title: Guest of Tang.
