The fifteenth year of the Wanli era, or 1587.

That year, the Ming dynasty was still 57 years from its fall!

That year, the Jianzhou Jurchens began to rise amid the mountains and rivers of the northeast!

That year, the Wanli Emperor had already grown negligent in governing.

That year, the struggle over the succession began to unfold.

That year, Qi Jiguang, the Ming dynasty's last great general, passed away. Hai Rui, a model of virtue, also left this world.

That year, Spain and England were locked in a fierce struggle for maritime supremacy.

And historians called that year insignificant.
