Happy Traveler Inn
Three hundred and seventy li farther west from Kunlun lies Mount Leyou. The Tao River rises there and flows west into Lake Ji, where white jade is plentiful. In a narrow hutong in Beijing stands an old courtyard inn, with a vermilion gate and blue glazed tiles. The plaque of golden-thread nanmu wood bears the name Leyou Inn. A thousand years ago, humans, demons, and gods fought a great war. From then on, the world was divided in three: the gods dwelled in Kunlun, and the demons hid in darkness.
