Genius at Play

Twenty years ago, the grandest event in online gaming, the “Gods’ War,” began. In the race to claim the title of “Gaming God,” the highest honor in the gaming world, the major guilds stopped at nothing, throwing the entire scene into turmoil.

At the time, the two most widely favored candidates were Yang Qi (Bu San Bu Si), leader of the Sky’s Scar guild, and Qin Zheng (Righteousness Prevails), head of the God of War guild. They led the number-one and number-two guilds in the gaming world, respectively, and had fought each other in the shadows for nearly a decade. Their strength was almost evenly matched, and neither would give an inch!

It was said that, in their final reflex-speed test before the Gods’ War, their times were 0.08 seconds and 0.085 seconds, the best in the gaming world at the time.

As expected, the final showdown came down to the two of them. Qin Zheng narrowly won, while Yang Qi lost unexpectedly. Taking responsibility for the defeat, he left the Sky’s Scar guild, withdrew from the noise of the world, and disappeared into the Hoh Xil region of Qinghai-Tibet, thousands of miles away.

Twenty years later, Yang Qi’s successor, Yang Bu’er, emerged from seclusion and returned to Yanjing, stirring up a storm.
