Disaster Claims Adjuster

"The day a dead man came to file a claim, I learned that our company doesn't pay out money. It pays out lives.

My name is Shen Yan. I'm a new hire in the Anomalous Claims Department.

We don't handle car accidents, fires, or illnesses. We handle accidents that should never happen:

A person who has already been cremated comes in to file a claim in person;

An insured house vanishes from the map;

An elevator delivers its passengers three years into the past;

An entire family of seven dreams of the same death notice night after night.

I have just one job: investigate calamities, assess the losses, and decide whether to pay out.

Then I take on my first policy.

Three days after the policyholder dies, he comes to see me in person and asks:

"How will I die tomorrow?"

The last page of the policy reads:

Final beneficiary: Shen Yan."
