Tales of Spirits and Monsters: The Debt Collector

Things formed from the essence of heaven and earth become spirits. Lifeless, nonhuman things that awaken become monsters. Alongside them exist demons born from the numinous energies of heaven and earth, fiends transformed from the living, and ghosts transformed from the dead. Together, they give rise to the countless legends of this world.

Five thousand years ago, a dark storm separated the worlds of Yin and Yang, throwing the order of the world into chaos. The Flame Emperor Shennong used his great power to quell the storm and restore order to the Yin World.

To ensure humanity's safety and prosperity, the Great Emperor Shennong used his own blood to bring forth the Eight Monsters of Gold, Silver, Jade, Copper, Iron, Porcelain, Tin, and Wood. He also left the power of the Shennong bloodline in the world for future generations to inherit. Bound by a pact of symbiosis, the inheritors and the Eight Monsters of Shennong would work together to safeguard the peace of the world.

Five thousand years of trials and tribulations brought prosperity to the human world. Long streets crisscrossed beneath towering buildings, the bustle of city life stretched for a thousand miles, crowds flowed through the lanes, and the lights of countless homes shone without end.

Now the order of the human world faces another test.

As the saying goes:

Even in middle age, the heart's fire still burns; old and young alike can be ambitious and capable. Do not say a worn-out body has no sharp edge: I dare to cut down evil vines in this mortal world.
