Folk Customs Reawaken! My Grandpa Is the Last Great Shaman

My grandfather was the last "Da Le" for miles around.

"Da Le" means the chief funeral director, the highest authority in the northern funeral trade, and the person nobody at a funeral dares offend.

After he died, he left me a book called Funeral Notes.

The very first page said: On the night of the wake, never answer when someone calls your name, not even Grandfather.

I didn't listen.

I answered.

Then I saw the thing I least wanted to see in this life.

My name is Chen Jiu. Nine is the ultimate number, and nine times nine returns yang.

Grandfather said this name wasn't a wish for me to live a long life. He hoped I would snatch my life back from the dead.

Now he's gone, so it's my turn to fight for it.

[Chinese folk customs + rules-based horror + funeral taboos + inheritance between grandfather and grandson]

[Protagonist: medical student + heir to the funeral director's trade]

[Golden finger: Funeral Notes, a family heirloom recording every funeral taboo and how to break the rules]

Red paper sets the rules; white paper marks the taboos.

The living walk the road of yang; the dead walk the road of yin.

Take the wrong road, and you'll never return.
