The Near-Death Tracker

They came back from the dead, then vanished from the world. Chen Mo is a young researcher studying near-death experiences. A car accident three months ago left him waking from a coma, and at that same moment, an unseen hand nudged his physical data onto a different track. Then Li Jianguo, the central subject of his research, was resuscitated after his heart stopped for four and a half minutes. His address, photos, household registration, and phone number were all gradually “erased” from the world. Only Chen Mo remembers him. The encrypted recording on Chen Mo’s phone is the only proof that the old man ever existed. Following the gray thread stretching from his heart, Chen Mo uncovers a truth buried beneath the rules: When people return from the brink of death, they bring back something. An organization called the Pure Realm Society is hunting these returnees in the name of “maintaining the stability of reality,” erasing traces, eliminating test subjects, and leaving no survivors. The deeper he digs, the more he discovers that his younger sister Chen Yu, criminal investigator Zheng Guodong, heiress Su Wanqing, and even Chen Mo himself have long been caught up in a massive experiment straddling the boundary between life and death. When death becomes a doorway, being alive is the biggest flaw of all.
