Midnight Case Files: I Can Foresee the Script of Death

Yongye City is shrouded in unrelenting fog all year round, its streets cloaked in an oppressive gloom that never lifts. For three years, a series of bizarre “copycat cases” has erupted across the city. Without exception, every murder meticulously recreates a cold case sealed away ten years ago. The same method of death, the same crime scene, the same arrangement. No fingerprints, no killer, no traces. It is as if an invisible hand is replaying the same death scenes again and again, though their story ended long ago. Everyone believes these are the sick imitations of a serial killer. Only Lin Xu knows the truth: these are not imitations, but sacrifices. Lin Xu is an ordinary young man who dropped out of police academy, yet he possesses a bizarre ability no one else can understand: By touching a dead person’s belongings, he can read the complete chain of events leading to their death during the seventy-two hours before they died, and foresee murders about to happen. But this power is no gift. It is a curse. Every time he reads a script, he is forcibly drawn into a closed-loop death trap, marked, tracked, and hunted by the entity pulling the strings. The more clearly he sees, the closer he comes to death. After repeatedly predicting murders with uncanny accuracy and seeing through death traps in advance, Lin Xu quickly draws the attention of the police. Su Wan, a poker-faced policewoman, names him her prime suspect. Police across the city keep a close eye on him and investigate him from every angle. In public, he is the strange man who keeps showing up at murder scenes, the prime suspect. In private, he is the only one who can see the script and fight against fate.
