I'm the Night-Shift Building Manager, and Words Keep Appearing in the Duty Manual

My name is Jiang Yu. I work the night shift as the building manager at Huai'an Lane Apartments. I earn 3,200 yuan a month and live in the gatehouse. On my first night making the rounds, a line of text appeared by itself in the blank duty log: "If the motion-sensor lights behind you turn on three times in a row, crouch immediately. Count to ten before looking up." I wasn't sure I believed it, but the lights really did turn on three times behind me. From then on, new rules appeared in the log every night: --"Don't answer anyone who greets you in the hallway." --"The elevator leaves as soon as it has seven people aboard. Last night, it took six." --"Residents of this building must not look in mirrors at three in the morning." The last rule chilled me to the bone. It was written in my own handwriting. Thirty years ago, everyone on the fifth floor of this building was "entered into the register" overnight. No one remembered them living there. Not even the records remained. Old Liu told me, "Xiao Jiang, just focus on making your rounds." But when I flipped to the last page of the log, a line slowly appeared: "Don't trust him. The person who wrote the rules for this whole building thirty years ago was you."
