The universe is an ongoing, impossibly long serial called All Things. Its author has gone missing, and the Heavenly Dao Editorial Department is managing it in their place. Every living being has a script hanging over their head. It tells you when you'll be born, when your luck will turn, whom you'll fall in love with, and when you'll die. Villains can win because their scripts have been guaranteed publication. The Heavenly Dao can pass judgment because it holds final editorial authority. Everyone lives according to their script. No one knows that a plot can be sent back. Lin Tui can see the scripts and click “reject.” He has to give a reason, and it has to be sound. The stronger the reason, the more thoroughly the plot is rejected. Rejected plots are tossed into the rewriting zone, where he adds editorial notes that affect reality. Su Zhe can hear the voices of characters in the discarded drafts in the rewriting zone. No one else can hear them, but she can. They beg her to revise their scripts, to keep them from being erased completely. All she can do is listen; she can't reject anything. But the fact that she can hear them is dangerous enough. There are six levels of rejection authority: reject dialogue, reject plot, reject characterization, reject rules, reject the Heavenly Dao, and reject the author. Restrictions: You can't kill people out of thin air; you can only reject settings and plotlines. If you give a poor reason, the Heavenly Dao will overrule you.
