Number 02: Five Seconds of Time

At 1:40 a.m., a white car hit someone at the end of a bridge, reversed, swerved around them, and sped off. Lin Qiao stood far away and couldn't see clearly, but it felt as if something had struck his mind. The scene before his eyes seemed to rewind five seconds, and the white car hit the person again. This time, he saw the license plate: Jiang A·7K3026. That was also when he realized he could see someone in white who was always nearby, though he couldn't make out their face. Only later did he learn that his awakened ability was called “Time.” It ranked second on the national list of special abilities, a vacant spot for twenty years. But using it came at a price. Every time, he traded something of himself for another chance to start over. Eventually, though, he felt five seconds was too short. He could see what was right in front of him, but he couldn't save the person he'd failed to save that year, or the person he wanted to save right before his eyes. The white shadow drew closer and closer. Someone said that twenty years ago, there had been another person just like him. But they grew fainter and fainter, until they were gone. Lin Qiao wondered, “Are these five seconds enough to find out the truth?”
