On a rainy night in Nagoya, China's table tennis team's legendary winning streak comes to an end. Lin Ran, a boy who watches over an abandoned old gym, picks up an old penhold paddle with a broken handle and glimpses the table tennis spirit sleeping atop the table. Starting on a concrete table, he fights his way from a county sports school to the Olympic stage. He uses the skills of those who came before him to overcome each challenge, but must pay the price of having his soul scattered. When he must choose between a gold medal and someone dear to him, he gives up all the borrowed glory and delivers a winning shot of his own.
