Scavenger of a Wasteland Planet

Everyone across the stars drinks nutrient supplements and eats synthetic food. Only a wasteland boy still believes that things can grow from the soil, and every ancient Earth crop he grows is medicine that can cure disease. In Star Year 472, the Human Alliance controls the eastern reaches of the galaxy. Four hundred years after humanity began colonizing the stars, the genetic engineering and synthetic nutrient supplements they once took pride in have turned against civilization. Synthetic food has caused human genes to degenerate, while mental instability, commonly known as “brain fog,” has become widespread. Those afflicted suffer memory loss and emotional outbursts, and Alliance hospitals are overflowing. The legendary “ancient Earth crops” capable of curing the disease have long since vanished. After Earth was destroyed, its seeds scattered across the stars, but no one could grow them: interstellar soil is generally contaminated with excessive heavy metals, and the crops are extremely sensitive to their environment.
