Chen Mo's goal isn't conquest or a restart. It's to keep this door shut. He has three things to do: Containment: Capture the fictional characters who have already slipped out, one by one, or let them “rest in peace” (forgotten stories were meant to disappear). Repair: Find out what caused the cracks in the door and seal them. Protection: Keep ordinary people safe from “narrative erosion.” Those who are eroded can no longer tell reality from stories, and eventually go mad. But he soon discovers that things aren't so simple. Someone is deliberately trying to smash the door down. There's a group of people who think the real world is too boring. They want fictional characters to enter our world and myths to become reality. They call themselves the “Door Openers.” And so Chen Mo finds himself having to capture escaped characters, fight off the madmen trying to smash the door, and protect ordinary people, all at once.
