Jie, the seventeenth Xia ruler and known as the Last King of Xia, gave himself over to debauchery, persecuted loyal subjects, and cruelly oppressed the people of the various vassal states. The rulers of those states all lived in fear, dreading what might come... Heaven rewards diligence. Unable to bear the suffering of the people any longer, the four great Ancestral Shamans descended to offer them an opportunity: Zhu Di, founder of the Eastern Shaman lineage; Yang Ling, founder of the Western Shaman lineage; Kui Gang, founder of the Southern Shaman lineage; and Dao Xie, founder of the Northern Shaman lineage. Together, they compiled the Record of Shamans and Immortals, directing shamans throughout the mortal realm to choose sides and test one another, so they could help King Tang's army, a force of benevolence and justice, overthrow the tyrant and earn their place among the immortals, returning to the Way of the Shamans.
