A Theory of the Innate Dao of Virtue

Everyone knows that cultivating the Dao requires retreating from the world, but few realize that the mortal world is the greatest training ground of all. Innate nature is the foundation; acquired nature is its application. Some withdraw from the world to cultivate in solitude, only to grow more lost with every step. Others are swept up in the pursuit of fame and fortune, yet suddenly attain enlightenment. This is not a cultivation guide that teaches you to meditate or refine pills. It is a record of enlightenment that overturns conventional wisdom: how can you recover your innate, unsullied heart in a world ruled by acquired desires? Xuzi said, “The Dao is not in the mountains. It is where you eat and dress.” When the Heavenly Dao’s principle that excess brings loss and humility brings gain is borne out in your life, and the truth of non-action and naturalness emerges through one setback after another, you will realize that returning to simplicity means finding your place in the most ordinary parts of everyday life.
