Great Sheng: From Scholar to Soldier, Rising Again

In the twenty-third year of the Shengyuan era, on a snowy night in Chang'an.

Dugu Shuo, the Prince of Zhenbei, raised an army and marched south in the name of "purging the emperor's enemies." Two hundred thousand cavalry trampled the imperial capital, and the flourishing Great Sheng dynasty fell overnight.

Shen Chenxi, a scholar from Jiangnan, was copying out an essay on statecraft by lamplight at an inn. The palace examination was just three days away. Hooves thundered into the city, grinding his manuscript into the mud. His dream of passing the imperial exams after ten years of study shattered amid the ruins.

Among the ashes, he found half a copy of the damaged Six Secret Teachings. One line pierced his heart:

"The realm does not belong to one man. It belongs to all under Heaven."

At first, he hoped a single proclamation would awaken the scholars of the realm.

But in an age of war, words could not stop cavalry. Shen Chenxi finally understood that empty talk of the Way was not enough to protect the people.

Dugu Shuo did not change the dynasty's name or claim the throne. Instead, he ruled as regent, commanding the realm's armies and cowing all around him.

Shen Chenxi put down the books on his desk, abandoned his brush, and joined the army.

He understood civil administration, knew the grain transport routes, and was skilled at planning. Though a scholar, he stood among the ranks. The brush remained in one hand, while a spear rested in the other.

He would unite hearts through the Way and quell the chaos through arms.

These were the darkest ten years in Great Sheng's history.

A lone scholar abandoned the written word and joined the army to restore this shattered land.
