Lost Map

In 1938, a surveying and mapping team entered the depths of the Alps. Six people went in and when they came back, no one could tell how many came back. Eighty-eight years later, documentary director Xu Zhiyao received an old photo left by his grandfather. The photo was taken during that disappearance, but her name appears on the back. What's even weirder is that there is a girl wearing a red coat standing in the distance of the photo - that dress belongs to her when she is seventeen years old. And she happened to have lost the memory of eleven days in Europe when she was seventeen years old. In order to retrieve those eleven days, Xu Zhiyao, map restorer Shen Yan, and mountain rescue expert Lu Ye followed a road that had long disappeared from modern maps into the Alps. Ancient mountain passes, sealed settlements, stone gates engraved with the number of people, and a warning that has been passed down for hundreds of years continue to appear: Don't come back the same way. Joined by European historian Eva Leitner, they discover similar traces extend far beyond just one valley. From old Alpine roads to ancient city entrances deleted from archaeological records, people of different ages and civilizations seem to have encountered the same unexplainable thing and made similar choices - closing roads, changing names, moving coordinates, and then completely disappearing certain places from the map. Xu Zhiyao always thought that what he was looking for was a forgotten past. Until she heard her father again, who had been dead for twenty-seven years, behind an impossible stone wall. At that moment she realized- What is not on the map may never have been a place. Rather, it is a period of history that once truly existed.
