In 2147, humanity masters the ultimate technology for peering into the future: Folding Sight. It can fold images of the future out of billions of possible timelines, but it obeys one cruel law: observation causes disturbance. The destiny you gaze upon will come true because of your obsession. Lin Yan, a genius observer, possesses a rare, high-level disturbance talent. Three years ago, he secretly adjusted a restricted projection and saw a gray-fog disaster engulfing the city. He also watched his younger sister, Lin Wan, meet her certain death in the fog. To rewrite the fate of his loved one, he has spent three years revisiting images of the apocalypse countless times, dissecting classified data, and obsessing over defying fate. But he eventually discovers that by repeatedly watching the tragedy, he has been steadily raising the probability of the apocalypse, personally turning a low-probability natural disaster into a near-certain catastrophe for humanity.
