No One Worships Me

People have always thought gods came from ancient legends, temples, and incense offerings. But what if gods were never created by worship? What if every desire, fear, longing, and hatred, every thought that lingers, left a trace in this world? And what if those traces gathered together and eventually gave birth to something real? Then the gods have never left the mortal world. They hide in cities, alleys, old houses, mountains and rivers, and the memories of countless people. They also change with the times. Some have existed for thousands of years. Some have only just been born. Some have names. Others don’t even know what they are. And unseen by humanity, another world has always existed, overlapping with reality. There is no true past there. Nor does any thought ever truly disappear. Then, one day, Wu Nian stepped inside. Only then did he begin to understand: Perhaps the so-called gods were never beings enthroned above all living things. People have thoughts. And so, gods exist in this world.
