World Forger: The Abyssal Rift

In a remote outer arm of the universe, a star system entered the Great Universe Era in Star Calendar Year 55. It all began five years before Star Calendar Year 3734, in Year 3734 of the Queen's Calendar, also known as the Gregorian calendar. A damaged alien spacecraft randomly opened a dimensional breach and crashed onto a human planet. The entire ship was covered in a force field and was almost impervious to weapons. Laser weapons, electromagnetic weapons, conventional firearms, and even nuclear weapons had no effect. The ship destroyed the world's highest peak before plunging into the deepest ocean trench. It crushed the military forces of the world's most powerful nation, then vanished into the sea of stars. The thickest defenses were pierced as easily as chopsticks through tofu, while the most advanced weapons struck its armor like a child's slingshot against a tank. The resulting earthquakes and tsunamis set the global economy back nearly fifty years. The population was halved, the climate changed drastically over five years, and food production fell by two-thirds. At the end of 3739, the nations of the world established the United Nations of the Planet, abolishing regional tariffs, standardizing currency, prices, and education, while allowing local autonomy in some regions. In essence, the world became a single federated state. Pooling their resources, people began searching for ways to protect themselves. Some believed they should excavate underground; others thought they should explore the other planets in their star system; still others believed they should develop deep-space travel and head for other star systems. The Triad Council was established to pursue all three directions. Then an Antarctic research team discovered the remains of the alien spacecraft in the ice, and the Triad Council was renamed the Interstellar United Council. Humanity set out for the universe, and the Great Universe Era began.
