I’m the Gatekeeper Sect Master

A light urban comedy about people with supernatural abilities, told in the first person. The protagonist inherits his family’s old house and becomes the successor to a declining martial arts school called Watch the Gate. The worn sign has lost several strokes, so people mistake its name for “Watch the Door.” He has a special healing ability that can only temporarily suppress the injuries of people with supernatural powers, and it comes at a clear physical cost. He has no offensive abilities of his own. He knows a set of family martial arts, but can only dodge, not attack. A group of well-behaved neighbors with supernatural abilities live in seclusion along an old street. When a civilian public-safety task force arrives to arrest them, a conflict breaks out at the protagonist’s doorstep. A series of misunderstandings leads everyone to believe that the protagonist is a great demon lord who keeps supernatural beings as his minions. Forced into the conflict, the protagonist tries to protect the old street while investigating his father’s disappearance. The story blends everyday neighborhood life, twists born of misunderstandings, and suspenseful maneuvering. It avoids the overpowered hero’s usual rise-to-power formula and has no System, focusing instead on the characters and their dealings with various factions.
