Back in 1998, Liu Chengyuan, the second generation of rich people, wanted to build cars and founded Huateng Automobile. There was no system or golden finger, only a foresight about the future of the automobile industry. Together with Chery, Geely, Great Wall, Changan, Zhonghua, and BYD, they all stand on the same starting line, determined to make their own brand of luxury cars, and soar all the way to the top. It develops its own engines and automatic transmissions, and builds a dual-brand strategy to focus on mid- to high-end models while also arranging for lower-tier markets. Amid the wave of joint venture squeeze and peer competition, it is difficult for the Chinese to build their own automobile empire.
