Langshan Fengyun

In the first year of the Republic of China, in the Dengtong Mansion deep in the Langshan Mountains in southern Hubei, hundreds of families lived on the mountains, farming, studying and passing down family traditions. Deng Lirong, born in 1912, was originally a diligent and simple mountain village farmer. He lived a stable life by guarding the fireworks of his neighborhood and controlling the village customs. In 1937, when the war broke out in the south and the Japanese invaders destroyed the tranquility of the mountains, 25-year-old Deng Lirong stepped forward in the face of danger. He sounded the gong to protect the people, lured the enemy to save the village, and faced the puppet army in the desperate situation of the ancient temple. He had a kind heart to forgive the little people in troubled times for their involuntary actions. The following year, he was trapped in Xingtanpu, an enemy camp, and suffered hard labor. He escaped from prison in the dark night and returned to his hometown with a life-saving salt bag. After eight years of anti-Japanese war and the recovery of the country, he put aside his grudges, reconciled with his old friends, cultivated the countryside deeply, and lived an honest life. In eighty-one years of life, from a passionate commoner in troubled times to an old man guarding mountains in prosperous times, he never strives for fame or suffers, but only sticks to his true heart: the living are more important than the dead.
