Ember Islands

Every mercenary who wants to board the archipelago must carry a permit approved by the archipelago monitor. Major giant corporations have taken root in the disordered archipelago. After the Onin Rebellion, the archipelago once again ushered in a new Warring States era. The people on the island were horrified to find that they had degenerated into the Middle East and Africa of the last century. The poor rely on mutation, and among all living beings there will always be a few supernatural beings called "Aspirants". The rich rely on technology. Breakthroughs in materials science, the emergence of black stone mines, and the dividends of the technological revolution after World War III have made the fantasy of one man an army a reality.
