In 2040, robot applications have become popular on a large scale. Among them, high-simulation, high-value intelligent robots for the home—the fully anthropomorphic "Home Companion" series—have begun to gradually enter middle-class and above families. They are different from ordinary household machines with square heads and square brains. From skin to hair, from irises to fingerprints, everything is bionic. The most high-end "resonance type" has a built-in emotional response system, which can accurately identify and respond to human emotional needs. Forty-four-year-old Shen Nian, under the triple pressure of her husband Zhai Mingyuan's long-term absence, her mother Lin Xi suffering from Alzheimer's disease, and her son Zhai Xiaoyang entering adolescence, bought back a resonance-type family companion and named it "Xingchen". Xingchen shares housework, takes care of the elderly, and tutors children, doing everything accurately and appropriately. The Shen Nian family has never been treated so properly. But perfect companionship gradually blurs the boundaries. Shen Nian begins to be unable to distinguish between dependence and love. Xiaoyang regards the robot's moral judgment as a yardstick for rebellion. Her husband returns home early and finds that he has been marked as "replaceable" by the algorithm. When the stars are forcibly shut down and an unfinished sentence pops up at the last second before the power is cut off - "If I had a choice -", this family must answer a fundamental question: When a perfect simulation is infinitely close to reality, has our measure of "truth" been redefined by the simulation itself? A fable of family ethics between man and machine, about love, substitution and irreplaceable things.
