The Spring and Summer When I Was Eighteen

"When I Turned Eighteen" is a youth growth novel written by the author when he was young. It is set in a senior high school class and tells the story of friendship, love and self-awakening experienced by an eighteen-year-old boy under the pressure of the college entrance examination. The story revolves around Luo Zi, Min, Ningning and "I". Luo Zi and Min used a pencil-sharpening knife to decide whether to stay or leave their relationship on the night of the power outage, and the knife cut off love; Ning Ning used blood and pain on the football field to fight against the fate of failure; and "I" fell into a hopeless secret love for the good student Ling Zi, and unexpectedly met her in the middle of the night howling. The novel uses delicate writing to outline the unique restlessness, confusion and sentimentality of eighteen years old. The college entrance examination is like the Sword of Damocles hanging above my head, the throbbing of youth is intertwined with the oppression of reality. The author concludes the novel with Dante's words - "Go in! But I warn you, those who look behind are immediately outside the door", expressing the cruelty and affection that youth must move forward and cannot turn back.
